Three Coins In The Fountain
|
|
|
Three American women in Rome, three charming men, three love stories, three coins in the fountain--The Fountain of Trevi--to guarantee (legend has it) a return to the Eternal City. These were the elements of the 1954 film for which Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne wrote this Oscar-winning title theme. Sung on the sound track by Frank Sinatra, the song made the Trevi Fountain one of Rome's major tourist attractions.
Additionally, the Ol'Kunnel notes that the Minister of Finance happily collects all the coins from the fountain from time to time. It helps to pay the water bill substantially he thinks. (grin)
Three coins in the fountain,
Each one seeking happiness,
Thrown by three hopeful lovers,
Which one will the fountain bless?
Three hearts in the fountain,
Each heart longing for its home;
There they lie in the fountain,
Somewhere in the heart of Rome.
Which one will the fountain bless?
Three coins in the fountain,
Through the ripples how they shine.
Just one wish will be granted;
One heart will wear a valentine.
Make it mine! Make it mine! Make it mine!
