In 1959, Jack Yellen attended the 50th
anniversary of his high-school graduating class. As writer of "Ain't She Sweet"
(1926) and dozens of other hit songs, he was somewhat of a celebrity. But his
one-time English teacher was unimpressed. "So you're the one who wrote
Ain't She Sweet," she said. "And I thought I taught you that
ain't is bad grammar!"
Words by Jack Yellen.
Music by Milton Ager.
Ain't She Sweet?
See her coming down the street!
Now I ask you very confidentially
Ain't She Sweet?
Ain't she nice?
Look her over once or twice.
Now I ask very confidentially
Ain't she nice?
Just cast an eye
in her direction
Oh, me! Oh, my!
Ain't that perfection?
I repeat,
Don't you thnk that's kind of neat?
And I ask you very confidentially
Ain't she sweet?
