Doctor Six: Colin Baker
The sixth form of the Doctor was certainly one of the most unique. As was
the tendency, his regeneration was accompanied by a level of instability. This
time, however, there was an excessive amount of instability. The insanity was
apparent as his mood swings flew through all ends of the spectrum. He went from
a caring, sympathetic individual one minute to a murder-enraged psycho the next.
Opinions are certainly the most divided in concerns with Colin Baker's portrayal
of the Doctor. His manner was very brash and arrogant, exhibiting the same aloof
tendencies as the first Doctor. At the same time, he was just a tad bit on the
loony side, with a variety of mood swings being evident wherever he went. And
his mode of dress took the cake, with a level of gaudiness that surpassed anything
that any of the other incarnations could manage. His nature was wild and
unpredictable, and in some ways led to the short downfall of the series for a
year. The actor was himself very arrogant, and would be quoted as saying that
he was made for the part of the Doctor, and the part of the Doctor was made only
for him. His arrogance would get the best of him, however, when he refused to
allow the producers to cast him for only part of a season before his regeneration.
As a result, the change to the next Doctor occurred a bit earlier than planned. He left the cast at the age of 50 years and was born June 8, 1943.
Colin Baker seems to be the least liked of the Doctors. [The Ol'Kunnel feels that this dislike might have come from a time in a previous generation when Colin Baker was a Gallifrey soldier who was decidely arrogant and against the good Doctor.]
