Benny Goodman's 1936 recording of this song, with
Helen Ward's vocal, has been described as exemplifying the dawn of the swing era
(Hit Parade 1920-1955, by Don Tayler). It held the No. 1 position for six weeks.
Recordings by Freddy Martin (March 1936) and Bob Crosby (April 1936) also broke
through the top 10, and it was named to the ASCAP List of Hit Songs for that year. Twenty-one years later, in 1957, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers successfully
recorded this swing favorite.
Words and Music by Johnny Mercer and Matty Malneck.

So you met someone who set you back on your heels, Goody Goody!
So you met someone and now you know how it feels, Goody Goody!
So you gave him your heart too just as I gave mine to you,
And he broke it in little pieces, now how do you do?
So you lie awake just singin' the blues all night, Goody Goody!
So you think that love's a barrel of dynamite,
Hooray and Hallelujah! You had it comein' to ya.
Goody Goody for him, Goody Goody for me,
And I hope you're satisfied, you rascal you.
So you met someone who set you back on your heels, Goody Goody!
So you met someone and now you know how it feels, Goody Goody!
So you gave him your heart too just as I gave mine to you,
And he stuck it in his collection, section ninety-two.
