Come, Josephine, In My Flying Machine
|
|
|
By the turn of the century, every important technological advance, news item or new fashion trend was grist for Tin Pan Alley's voracious song writing mill. The first powered flight by Orville Wright at Kitty Hawk in 1903 brought air travel to the fore and song writers did themselves proud with "Come Take a Trip in My Airship," "Up in a Balloon," "Up, Up, Up in My Aeroplane" and this song, the words of which are by Alfred Bryan, a native of Brantford, Ontario. Music by Fred Fisher.
The still photograph at the left is from the motion picture, "Titanic." If you haven't seen this great film then you won't get the connection with
the music. You will do yourself a great favor by seeing it.

Come Josephine in my flying machine,
Going up she goes! up she goes!
Balance yourself like a bird on a beam,
In the air she goes; there she goes!
Up, up, a little bit higher;
Oh! my! the moon is on fire.
Come Josephine in my flying machine,
Going up, all on, 'goodbye!'
