Moments To Remember
A song can be nostalgic simply by association, such as a ballad that reminds you of your junior prom because it was a big hit that year. Other songs make a direct play for nostalgia--such as "Thanks for the Memory," "These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You)" or this great standard, "Moments to Remember." The song had plenty of competition back in 1955. Children's voice everywhere were piping "The Ballad of Davy Crockett," while adults marched along to Mitch Miller's rousing version of "the Yellow Rose of Texas." When the Canadian quartet know as The Four Lads recorded "Moments to Remember," however, the song sky rocketed up the charts, and the group had a million-seller on its hands. Not only was it one of the big hits of that year, but it later proved to be the song by which many of those growing up in the 50s now remember the decade.
