Stars Fell on Alabama

Alabama, often referred to by its nickname, The Heart of Dixie, has inspired dozens of well-known melodies, one of which made a deep impression on the world of popular music in 1934. Without a doubt the most famous of Frank Perkins' compositions, "Stars Fell on Alabama" came out at the same time as Carl Carmer's popular novel of the same title, although there was no connection between the two works. Mitchell Parish, lyricist for a long list of songwriting greats, wrote the words.
Words by Mitchell Parish; Music by Frank Perkins
We lived our little drama;
We kissed in a field of white,
And stars fell on Alabama last night.
I can't forget the glamor;
Your eyes held a tender light,
And stars fell on Alabama last night.
I never planned in my imagination
A situation so heavenly,
A fairyland where no one else could enter,
And in the center just you and me, dear.
My heart beat like a hammer;
My arms wound around you tight,
And stars fell on Alabama last night.
