Volare (Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu)
|
|
|
Written by Sicilian gypsy Domenico Modugno, who claims descent from gypsy royalty, this song first appeared as "Nel Blu, Dipinto di Blu" in 1958, winning first prize at the Italian San Remo Song Festival as well as a Grammy in the U.S.A. several months later. In 1960, Bobby Rydell recorded a version with English lyrics by Mitchell Parish and made it a hit all over again. Since then, its carefree swing has kept it popular with singers and audiences alike.
English words by Mitchell Parish; Italian words by Domenico Modugno and F. Migliacci; Music by Domenico Modugno.
Volare, oh, oh! Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
Volare, oh, oh! Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
Let's fly way up in the clouds, Away from the madd'ning crowds.
Nel blu, dipinto di blu, Felice di stare lassù,
We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of where lovers enjoy peace of mind;
E volavo, volavo felice più_in alto del sole_ed ancora più su,
Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind.
Men tre_il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiù.
Just like birds of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find.
Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me.
Volare, oh, oh! Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
Volare, oh, oh! Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
No wonder my happy heart sings;
Nel blu, dipinto di blu,
Your love has given me wings,
Felice de stare lassù.
Your love has given me wings,
Nel blu, dipinto di blu,
Your love has given me wings.
Felice de stare lassù.
